我們必須被試煉,但我們也必然得勝;
神要與我們同在,我們必不被燒;
Bridge there is none: we must go through the waters
and feel the rush of the rivers. The presence of God
in the flood is better than a ferry-boat.
Tried we must be, but triumphant we shall be;
for Jehovah Himself, who is mightier than
many waters, shall be with us.
Whenever else He may be away from His people,
the Lord will surely be with them
in difficulties and dangers.
The sorrows of life may rise to
an extraordinary height,
but the Lord is equal to every occasion.
The enemies of God can put
in our way dangers of their own making,
namely, persecutions and
cruel mockings, which are like
a burning, fiery furnace.
What then? We shall walk through the fires.
God being with us, we shall not be burned;
nay, not even the smell of fire shall remain upon us.
Oh, the wonderful security of the heaven-born and
heaven-bound pilgrim! Floods cannot drown him,
nor fires burn him. Thy presence, O Lord,
is the protection of Thy saints from
the varied perils of the road.
Behold, in faith I commit myself unto Thee,
and my spirit enters into rest.

The notion that hostile persons or unfavorable
circumstances can prevent the will of God from
being fulfilled in a human life is altogether erroneous.
Nothing, no one, can hinder God or a good man!
It is one of the glories of the Christian faith that it can be
present in effective power regardless of whether or not
the moral and political environment is favorable to it.
If true religion consisted in outward practices,
then it could be destroyed by laws forbidding
those practices. But if the true worshiper is one
who worships God in spirit and in truth,
how can laws or jails or abuses or deprivations
prevent the spiritual man from worshiping?
Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God
and he is instantly free! No one can hinder him.
It is only when we introduce our own will
into our relation to God that we get into trouble.
When we weave into the pattern of our lives
threads of our own desires we instantly
become subject to hindrances from the outside.
The essence of spiritual worship is
to love supremely, to trust confidently,
to pray without ceasing and to seek to be Christlike
and holy, doing all the good we can for Christ‵s sake.
How impossible for anyone to hinder that kind of "practice"!

聖潔天使都來臨;
在極美麗、在極美麗河邊;
累人重擔先卸拋;
居住福地樂無疆;
Hymn: Shall We Gather at the River
Author: Robert Lowry (1826-1899)
1. Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Refrain:
Yes, we‵ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
2. On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.
3. Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we ev‵ry burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
4. Soon we‵ll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.

Except ye be converted, and become as little children...
These words of Our Lord are true of
our initial conversion, but we have to be
continuously converted all the days of our lives,
continually to turn to God as children.
If we trust to our wits instead of to God,
we produce consequences for which
God will hold us responsible.
We have to see our natural life obeys
the dictates of the Spirit of God.
Because we have done it once
is no proof that we shall do it again.
The relation of the natural to the spiritual
is one of continuous conversion,
and it is the one thing we object to.
God holds us responsible every time
we refuse to convert ourselves,
our reason for refusing is wilful obstinacy.
Our natural life must not rule,
God must rule in us.
The hindrance in our spiritual life is that
we will not becontinually converted,
there are ‘wadges’ of obstinacy where
our pride spits at the throne of God
and says—‘I won’t.’ We deify independence
and wilfulness and call them by the wrong name.
What God looks on as obstinate weakness,
we call strength. There are whole tracts of our lives
which have not yetbeen brought into subjection,
and it can only be done by this continuous
conversion. Slowly but surely we can claim
the whole territory for the Spirit of God.

隨主不改;
Hymn: More Love to Thee, O Christ
Author: Elizabeth Prentiss (1818-1878)
1. More love to Thee, O Christ!
More love to Thee;
Hear Thou the prayer I make
On bended knee;
This is my earnest plea,
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee!
More love to Thee!
2. Once earthly joy I craved,
Sought peace and rest;
Now Thee alone I seek,
Give what is best;
This all my prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee!
More love to Thee!
3. Let sorrow do its work,
Send grief and pain;
Sweet are Thy messengers,
Sweet their refrain,
When they can sing with me,
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee!
More love to Thee!
4. Then shall my latest breath,
Whisper Thy praise;
This be the parting cry
My heart shall raise;
This still its prayer shall be,
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee!
More love to Thee!

Do you ask for the anointing of the Holy Spirit?
Why do you ask for the anointing of the Holy Spirit?
Is the anointing something that you crave?
To what end? That you may be used,
may have power, may have influence,
may be able to do a lot of wonderful things?
The first and preeminent thing
the anointing means is that we can do nothing
but what the anointing teaches and leads to do.
The anointing takes everything out of our hands.
The anointing takes charge of the reputation.
The anointing takes charge of
the very purpose of God.
The anointing takes complete
control of everything and
all is from that moment
in the hands of the Holy Spirit.
The Son can do nothing out from Himself.
You see, there is the negative side of the anointing;
while the positive side can be summed up
in one word – the Father only.
The first and the abiding thing about the anointing
is that we are imprisoned into the Lordship of
the Spirit of God, so that there can be nothing
if He does not do it. Nothing!
