Hymn: Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Author: Thomas O. Chisholm (1866-1960)

1. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not,
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

2. Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Hymn: Because He Lives
Author: Bill Gaither and Gloria Gaither

1. God sent His son, they called Him Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Refrain:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

2. How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

3. And then one day, I‵ll cross the river,
I‵ll fight life‵s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I‵ll see the lights of glory and I‵ll know He lives!

I want deliberately to encourage a mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people.

When we choose deliberately to obey Him,
then, with all His almighty power,
He will tax the remotest star and
the last grain of sand to assist us.

Truth without love is brutality,
and love without truth is hypocrisy.

(Nearer My God To Thee) 2023-09-23

(Nearer My God To Thee)
(Sarah F. Adams, 1805–1848)

(Sheet Music of Hymn)

Hymn: Nearer My God To Thee
Author: Sarah F. Adams (1805–1848)

1. Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!
E‵en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

2. There let my way appear
Steps unto heav‵n;
All that Thou sendest me
In mercy giv‵n;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

3. Or if on joyful wing,
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon and stars forgot,
Upward I fly;
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

4. Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I‵d be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

5. Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I‵ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

It is good to remind ourselves
that the will of God
comes from the heart of God
and that we need not be afraid.
